About me

Nita Asa

Music composer, lyricist and narrative designer

I live between music and narrative, two crafts that for me are really one. Before I write a single note, I try to understand the story behind it. I want my music to do more than illustrate the scene: I want it to hold it up.

I was born in the south of Buenos Aires province, in a family that taught me to listen.

1990s

When I was a kid I joined the Baby Jazz Band, led by maestro Tito Piqué, which was considered the youngest jazz band in the world. I played washboard and cajón, danced without any shame, and that is where I found my first language: rhythm. I was always into music, drawing and poetry. At nine I fell in love with writing songs while learning classical guitar, and that same year I put music to one of my poems, a love letter to my childhood crush.

2000s

I studied classical singing with Armando Livani and sang in concerts and regional tours. At sixteen I started my first band, NNDD, and we played covers of Oasis, Coldplay, Radiohead and Pink Floyd. In 2008 I moved to La Plata to study Audiovisual Arts.

2010s

This decade was pure exploration. I studied, I rebelled, I failed and kept going. I left university in my fourth year because of a complicated situation, and for a while I learned on my own. I travelled, made things, tried everything. Then I went back to music and spent three years at EMU (School of Music and Multimedia Composition), where I also worked as a producer. I ran the Foundation’s operations, organised concerts and international seminars, and managed partnerships with IASJ institutions like Berklee (Boston), The New School (New York) and Musicians Institute (Los Angeles). In 2018, after a tragedy in my family and another hard moment in my creative life, I moved to Spain, where I live now.

2020s

I worked as a freelance film composer and scriptwriter for ADN Play Films. Then I spent four years as Lead Narrative Designer at Uplay Online, a video game studio in Barcelona. At the end of 2023 I was replaced by the same AI I had helped train. That hurt, and it also changed something in me. I recorded my album with producer Jacobo Calderón, and I created SecretSelf, a platform for human-made art where artists can be seen in a world full of AI.
